What is a Psychiatric Evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation is a way to assess your mental and behavioral health. Sometimes we only need a little guidance in better comprehending ourselves. This evaluation is useful for understanding any concerns you may have about your mental state.

A psych eval may be needed to diagnose emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorders. An evaluation of an adolescent or adult is made based on behaviors present and in relation to physical, genetic, environmental, social, cognitive (thinking), emotional and educational parts that may be affected as a result of these behaviors. To help our customers on the road to recovery and wellbeing, our evaluations also result in treatment recommendations.

What is a Psychiatric Evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation aims to:

  • Involve the patient when deciding on a first course of treatment.
  • Eliminate any additional medical issues that could be causing the symptoms.
  • Determine any potential future long-term issues.
  • In the case of patients who have previously undergone a mental evaluation, alter the course of treatment as necessary.
  • Confirm the diagnosis of a mental disorder that has to be treated by a psychiatrist.

Our providers are dedicated to making sure you get the right diagnosis.

Two Types of Mental Health Evaluations:

Psychological Assessment

When there is a worry that a person's mental state and/or social, academic, or professional performance are being severely impacted by mental health difficulties, a psychiatric evaluation is offered. It happens frequently that the precise nature of the underlying issue is not well recognized or that there are divergent views on what is going on and what can be done to help. Our psych evals can offer a thorough examination, help with diagnostic clarification, and aid with treatment planning.

 Neuropsychological Assessment

When there is a worry that cognitive issues are significantly affecting a person's ability to cope or perform in some area of life, whether it be a relationship, a job, or daily activities, neuropsychological evaluations are given. In some situations, there is a specific incident that is recognized to possibly have an impact on cognitive performance (such as a brain-related injury or the onset of a medical condition). When the precise reason or conditions that caused cognitive alterations are unclear, a thorough assessment of cognitive functioning is advised.

Why a Mental Health Evaluation?

The purpose of a mental health evaluation is to collect and evaluate pertinent data that can be utilized to answer referral-related inquiries, explain diagnostic issues, and support treatment planning. A clinical interview and a series of psychological and cognitive tests are usually part of the evaluation procedure.

Also, we might want to review pertinent documents or communicate with anyone who can provide more information. The primary healthcare provider or mental health professional will address concerns and offer reassurance by working with you to develop long-term and short-term treatment goals for you or a loved one after examining and analyzing all the data.
